During the second quarter of 2026, the economy in the Bogotá-Cundinamarca region is estimated to have recorded year-over-year growth, driven mainly by household consumption.
This performance was reflected in the increase in retail sales and imports of consumer goods, particularly durable goods, such as electric vehicles and technology products. By contrast, regional industrial production declined slightly, explained by weaker manufacturing activity in Bogotá. In the construction sector, civil works continued to advance, while residential building projects and new housing slowed their growth pace compared with the previous quarter. Finally, in Bogotá, inflation continued to increase, although it remained below the national average, and the unemployment rate declined, reaching levels below those observed for the country.
Retail sales recorded growth above the national rate, driven mainly by sales of new vehicles. Likewise, sales of food, beverages, and technology products increased, boosted by higher consumption associated with the FIFA World Cup. Meanwhile, confidence indicators showed mixed results: while merchants’ perceptions improved, those of consumers declined. In turn, hotel occupancy declined due to a greater preference for alternative accommodations.

Regional industrial production recorded a slight contraction due to the decline in manufacturing activity in Bogotá, which was not offset by growth in Cundinamarca. While food, beverages, and auto parts boosted activity in the department, textiles and apparel reduced production in the capital. Industrial confidence remained in negative territory due to lower orders and higher inventories.

The region recorded mixed results in the construction sector. On the one hand, residential activity remained weak, as reflected in the decline in the constructed floor area of buildings, as well as lower housing project launches, housing starts, and new home sales, despite subsidy programs promoted by local governments. In contrast, civil works maintained a significant pace of execution, with progress in the projects for Metro Line 1, RegioTram, and Avenida 68 standing out. However, shipments of cement, concrete, and asphalt mix declined vis-à-vis the same period of the previous year.
