Presentation
This work was written in 1980 and published in 1987 under the auspices of the Office of the Comptroller General of Colombia. On this occasion, it is published under the sponsorship of Banco de la República (the Central Bank of Colombia). Salomón Kalmanovitz, who was a member of its Board of Directors, generously requested the governor at the time, Miguel Urrutia, and the authorities in charge of publications, to reprint the book. To all of them, I extend my gratitude.
In the last quarter of the century, the monetary history of Colombia has found new culturists among the new generations of researchers. The book entitled El Banco de la República: antecedentes, evolución y estructura, published in 1989, is, among many, an example of the growing interest in monetary research in the country.
The reprinting of the work aims to become a new stimulus for those who choose to dedicate their research vocation to the study of Colombian monetary institutions.
