Autobiographical notes by Hans Sitarz
Hans Sitarz (1889-1958) was a European trader and banker who lived most of his life in Latin America and the United States. Through this publication, excerpts from his personal annotations become available for the first time to a broad public. This was an important period of his life between 1911 and 1929, when he lived in Colombia. In addition, two reports written by himself on this country during 1942-1943 and 1944 have been added as a complement. Sitarz wrote these texts in the early 1950s with a typewriter and supplemented them with observations in German manuscripts. For this purpose, he relied on his journal and his excellent memory. The manuscript is in the possession of his daughter, Anneliese Sitarz, in Summit, New Jersey. The author passed away before the long-awaited printing.
What is the content of this book? It essentially describes Sitarz's promotion from his initial position as a junior employee to a bank director with broad decision-making authority. The author recounts aspects of his career, the companies where he worked, the corporate culture of these firms, and the people he worked with. He also describes the economy, society, and the customs of certain groups in the regions he visited.
