1. If I negotiated and transferred foreign currency from my international investment through a foreign exchange market intermediary (IMC), do I also have to register it with Banco de la República (the Central Bank of Colombia)?

It is not necessary to take additional steps before Banco de la República to register your investment, considering that the foreign currency negotiated and transferred through the foreign exchange market (market intermediaries or foreign currency bank accounts entails the automatic registration of the international investment.

2. When should I register my investment in the Foreign Exchange Information System?

The registration of international investments in the Foreign Exchange Information System (only in Spanish) applies to investments that do not require foreign currency negotiation and transfer, according to the origins of registration (only in Spanish).

3. Can I modify the international investment information reported to Banco de la República?

Yes, sections 1.4 and 1.5 of Chapter 01 of External Regulatory Circular DCIP-83 establish the procedures for corrections, changes, and cancellation of exchange statements transmitted through foreign exchange market intermediaries and foreign currency bank accounts.

Section 7.1.4 of the same Regulatory Circular also establishes the procedures for amending the international investment statement.

4. How can I obtain a statement of my investments?

You may consult your investment statement by accessing Banco de la República’s Foreign Exchange Information System (only in Spanish). Banco de la República does not issue communications to deliver foreign investment statements.
