Guide to Banknotes that are unsuitable for Circulation due to their Soiled Condition
Below you will find a table linking the different levels or degrees of deterioration (photographs) for each of the different banknote denominations in circulation.
Grade 1 to 3: Corresponds to banknotes suitable1 for circulation, wherein grade 1 is the banknote in the best condition with a low level of deterioration, and grade 3 is the highest deterioration level accepted to be classified as suitable.
Grade 4 to 7: Banknotes that are considered unfit due to their soiled condition, wherein grade 4 is the benchmark to identify deteriorated banknotes2, i.e., all banknotes with the same or greater deterioration should be identified as DETERIORATED.

1 Suitable banknotes: genuine banknotes that are considered to be in appropriate condition for circulation in the market. Low level of deterioration.
2 Deteriorated banknotes: genuine banknotes that are unfit for circulation due to wear and tear, physical deterioration, or damage.
