Commemorative Coin of the 100th Anniversary of Banco de la República (the Central Bank of Colombia, Banrep) - Available to the Public as of 24 November 2023
- It has a face value of COP 20,000, is of legal tender, and may be used for any monetary transaction for the equivalent of its face value
In compliance with Law 2282 of 05 January 2023, BanRep will issue for commemorative purposes for one time only the 100th anniversary coin of Banco de la República.

The obverse includes the image of a female figure representing the Republic, initially adopted in France in 1792. It has received the name "Mariana" and has been used in the logo of Banco de la República since 1923, the year of its foundation.
In turn, the reverse includes the face value of the coin "20.000 PESOS" (COP 20,000) in the upper part; in the central zone, it exhibits a map of Colombia containing the caption "100 AÑOS Generando confianza" (100 YEARS Building trust), which is surrounded by various symbols representing trust, stability, management, and preservation of cultural heritage. It also includes a latent image as a security feature that, depending on the angle from which it is viewed, will reflect the initials "BR" (which stands for Banco de la República) or the Arabic numeral "20" and the number 20 in Braille. The lower part includes the caption "REPÚBLICA DE COLOMBIA" (REPUBLIC OF COLOMBIA) and the mintage year “2023.”
The commemorative coin will be available to the public as of 24 November 2023. It may be purchased at Banco de la República's Treasury counters in Bogotá and its branches and Cultural Agencies nationwide.

Features:
- Alloy composed of 75% +/- 2 copper, 5.0% +/- 2 nickel, and 20% +/- 2 zinc. - Yellow alpacca silver.
- 32 mm (± 0.1 mm) in diameter.
- Average weight: 18.34 g (± 3.0%).
- The coin will have a reeded edge.

Please note:
- It has a face value of COP 20,000, is of legal tender, and may be used for any monetary transaction for the equivalent of its face value.
- The coin is delivered inside an acrylic capsule in a cloth pouch with a leaflet containing information about its features.
- Only cash is accepted to make the exchange.
- The coin in a special case (optional): COP 37,000 (while stocks last).

To conduct the exchange:
- The person must come to Banco de la República’s facilities in their city during opening hours.
- Commemorative coins will be exchanged while stocks last.
- Remember that this procedure is free of charge and does not require intermediaries.
According to the External Operational and Services Letter DTE-406 Subject 74: Treasury Services (only in Spamish), in order to carry out cash exchange transactions at the treasury counters, you must submit one of the following original identity documents*:
- Valid citizenship card
- First-time identity card or the certified duplicate-procedure ID
- Foreign ID card
- Passport
- Temporary Protection Permit
* Banco de la República’s Treasury Department’s current regulations establish as a requirement for cash exchange transactions, the identification of the user through his/her citizenship card or first-time or duplicate ID. Considering this, minors may carry out cash exchange transactions, including those related to commemorative coins issued by Banco de la República through their parents or legal representatives, in accordance with the Law.
