Savings Workshop

The Savings Workshop is part of the Economic Education Program BanRep Educa, which aims to promote critical and reflective thinking in children in order for them to make responsible and informed decisions on economic topics, triggering the construction of their life projects. It includes a guide with a description of the workshop, some conceptual inputs, and recommendations for its development.

The Savings Workshop seeks to bring children between 6 and 12 years old closer to understanding basic economic concepts in an easy and didactic way.

Through the game, participants will:

  • Understand the difference between needs and wants.
  • Recognize the value of money to buy some things.
  • Identify Banco de la República (the Central Bank of Colombia) as the only entity issuing Colombian banknotes and coins
  • Identify the importance of saving.
  • Design a savings plan and a piggy bank to implement such a plan.
  • Strengthen the economic concepts with a fun memory game.

It is recommended to work with groups of 20 students to facilitate participative work, and by age range, from 6 to 8 years old and from 9 to 12 years old.
