The gap in the quality of education between urban and rural households in Colombia is caused by multiple factors. Rural families have, on average, less education, and it is also more common for children growing up in rural areas to spend more time working. In addition, there are fewer educational centers in rural areas, and those that do exist are more likely to be smaller and have fewer resources.
