Until the huge project for remodelling and transforming the Gold Museum of the Banco de la República is completed during the second half of 2008, you can visit an extraordinary sample of its pre-Hispanic metal crafts in the Art Museum of the Banco de la República, at the Manzana Cultural (The Cultural Block) in front of the Luis Angel Arango Library.

The sacred metal objects for the indigenous cultures, together with other archaeological objects in ceramics, stone, shell, metal and textiles, evidence the life and line of thought of different societies living in Colombia, before the contact with Europe.

This page contains information which will enable you to prepare a visit to the Museum.

Visiting a museum is a wonderful activity for the family to enjoy together and everybody will have happy memories to cherish. The parents can invite their sons and daughters, and the grandparents can take their grandchildren, to walk through the exhibit of the Gold Museum on show at the Art Museum of the Banco de la República with an introduction which shall change everybody’s perspective.

The Popón de Ubaque Chief is an immersive interactive video discovering the amazing pre-Hispanic iconographic universe: is this the shape of a bird or a fish? Why did the indigenous communities represent so many jaguars? What a transformation!

The Chief —a Muisca Wizard from the times of the conquest— transforms children and adults into researchers of the wonderful objects composing the archaeological collections of the Gold Museum. So after this experience, that lasts 20 minutes, the family will thoroughly enjoy visiting the rooms in the Museum together.
