JUAN JOSÉ ECHAVARRÍA WAS INAUGURATED AS NEW GOVERNOR OF THE CENTRAL BANK OF COLOMBIA

The new Governor replaced José Darío Uribe, who served the position for a period of 12 years. Mr. Echavarría faces the challenge of continuing to work for the preservation of the purchasing power of the currency, in coordination with the general economic policy, which seeks to stabilize output and employment at their long-term sustainable levels. Additionally, he will continue supporting and strengthening the cultural policies of the Central Bank with the purpose of increasing its accessibility among a greater number of Colombians and foreigners.

Juan José Echavarría is an Engineer from the Escuela de Minas de Medellín. He holds a Master's degree in Economics from Boston University, and a PhD in Economics from Oxford University.  He has served in different positions in the public and private sectors. Among others, he has been member of the Board of Directors of Banco de la República, Executive Director of Fedesarrollo, and deputy Foreign Trade Minister.
